Arkhangelsk Research Institute of Agriculture (ARIAG) is located in the village Lugovoy at the Primorsky District of Arkhangelsk Region. ARIAG was established in 1991 as an independent institution of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It included 4 experimental stations located in various natural and climatic zones of the Arkhangelsk region, as well as in the city of Naryan-Mar (Naryan-Mar Agriculture Research Station, NMARS).

In 2016 ARIAG and NMARS were included in the FECIAR UB RAS in the status of independent branches.

ARIAG provides scientific support for the agro-industrial complex of the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, conducts research and development in accordance with one of the key areas of the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2035: agriculture and production of safe food to ensure quality life of the Arctic population. Research is carried out in accordance with the Program of Basic Scientific Research of the State Academies of Sciences for 2021–2030, as well as under government contracts with the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade of the Arkhangelsk Region and grants from federal and regional funds.

MAIN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AREAS

- agricultural technology for the cultivation of agricultural crops;

- the formation of stable agro-phyto-cenoses;

- management of the breeding process for creating new plant varieties and animal genotypes with high economically valuable traits;

- sustainable development of reindeer husbandry in the Russian Arctic.

-       Regional Center for Breeding Selection Information.

Number of research fellows: 16, incl. 1 Doctor and 6 Candidates of Sciences.

Number of patents in 2011–2020: 5.
